the second morning of the year

1.02.2015

i love mornings. i love to wake up to the first rays of sunlight peeking through the window. to draw the curtains & open the blinds. i hear a gentle clash from downstairs as my mother busies herself with the pots, and a low murmuring as she strikes up a conversation on the phone.

i like to draw out my mornings as much as possible, refusing to tumble out of bed until i absolutely have to. i prefer to stay horizontal, my head propped up by a makeshift pile of pillows -- and read. when i grow tired of reading, i choose to stare at the little rays of light that criss-cross on the pages of my book.

and when too much time has slipped by and breakfast beckons impatiently, i reluctantly roll out of bed... and finally pad down the stairs.

lemony snicket once wrote, "morning is an important time of day, because how you spend your morning can often tell you what kind of day you are going to have." looks like today is going to be an extremely dreamy day.

how do you spend your mornings?

  1. This is exactly how I wake up. Except it's never really this poetic and maybe a lot less graceful. I'm not a morning person unless it's a morning on a weekend or school holiday. Chances are I'll fall out of bed alarmed by the sound of my phone. Then I'll prop myself up and act as if I'm cool as I search for something productive to do.

  5. This describes you perfectly-- texting me at six in the morning while I'm dozing off in my own dreams. Beautiful photographs and writing!

  8. I am, without a doubt, a morning person. I like the quietness of the morning, and I think best when it's quiet and peaceful (not something I get often with 6 younger siblings). I use that time to blog and make tea. It's the loveliest time of day.
    Great post! :)

  9. This is so gorgeous.

I love waking up before the sun and sit in the cold, fresh air watching it rise. And I also love having my window open on summer days and letting the sun and noises wake me. <3

Thanks for the ever so lovely reminder, Arushee. :-)

  10. Wow, this was beautiful to read! I usually groan and slur a bunch of alternatives to swear words in the morning, so it's really amazing and revealing to think about it this way. :) I LOVE Lemony Snicket; he's a genius.

  11. I love this so much. You're an amazing writer <3 I have to say my mornings drag out, but I don't consistently do the same thing- most days I keep the covers over my head as long as I can, haha.
I really like these pictures as well!

  12. Happy new year! Lovely photos.

I'm not much a morning person, though I wish I was! I'm usually well and truly asleep, perhaps opening my eyes for a few painful minutes when the sun pierces through the cracks in the blinds.

  13. SOMETIMES I FEEL LIKE ALICE.

I love the quote and how you wrote this entry is really beautiful. I love these mornings, they only happen on Sundays for me, though. On other days I have to get up early which is just absolutely great if I hadn't had enough sleep the night before. So after getting up I always put on some happy wake up music (I have a playlist for that) and jam to it for a few minutes just to get in a good mood and wake up. Then I do some yoga to start off the day in a nice posture and a calm attitude. And then it's just showering and eating breakfast before I gotta rush to school. x

  18. To be honest the monings like that are privilegy for me since most of mine aren't like that, the perks of an adult life, aking up at six in the morning, being late very often etc (-: And in the weekends I usually go for a hiking and that also means waking up very early, sometimes at four. But sometimes when I really have a day off I enjoy taking it slowly and truly enjoy the usual routines, breakfast, coffee, some nice radio stream, I can't imagine better than that (-:

  19. Mornings are a special time of day. I love the solitude of it. I like the waking process, opening your eyes, stretching, moving through molasses. My New Year's Resolution is to drink more water, so my new favorite thing to do in the morning is drink a glass of water. Great way to start the day off right and refresh your mind.

Have a super, fantastic, awesome, splendid, amazing day!
